MOROCCAN INTERNATIONAL JAWAD ANDALOUSSI RETURNS TO COACH LAVAL
Wednesday - March 22, 2006
Former Moroccan international Jawad Andaloussi, one of the most prominent players in that North African country who coached the CPSL’s Laval Dynamites in 2003, has returned to coach the Quebec-based team.
A press conference held on March 21 also announced Radouana Hilali as the team’s new general manager while Dom DiGironimo, Mike Marsillo and Tom Markakis join Tony Iannitto and Tony Incollingo to form the new board of directors.
Players signed for 2006 include striker Mohamed Ridouani, Arturo Cisneros Salas, a defender, and Patrick Geffrard, one of Quebec’s top goalkeepers. Ridouani played for Renaissance Sportive Stat of the Moroccan first division while Salas played first division soccer for Atlante of Mexico.
Les Dynamites have signed an affiliation agreement with Monteuil Soccer Club in Quebec to enable players to move up to the professional level. Coach Andaloussi, who played for Morocco including World Cup games in the 70s and 80s, was highly regarded during his 2003 one-year tenure with Laval, was visibly pleased at his appointment. “I am very excited and enthusiastic about coaching this team,” he told the Quebec media at the news conference.
Last year Laval finished the season with a 11-8-3 WLT record for third place in the Eastern Conference.
Tony Iannitto, owner of the Laval SportXpo Centre, who brought Laval Dynamites back to prominence in 2005, was pleased also with the club’s increased back room strength with businessmen Dom DiGironimo, owner of Hunters Glen Golf Club, Mike Marsillo, in the insurance business, and lawyer Tom Markakis. Tony Incollingo owns sporting goods supplier Eletto. “It’s going to be a great season for CPSL soccer in Quebec,” said Iannitto.
The players will be in training before the end of March and Laval Dynamites will play their first league game late May.
