LYNX BOLSTER ROSTER IN 2005 COLLEGE DRAFT

Tuesday, January 18, 2005 (TORONTO, ON) – The Toronto Lynx added some young talent to their lineup today by drafting Canadian Olympic Team defender Mathieu Savaria in the first round, 3rd overall, and Tony Anderson in the second round, 15th overall, in the USL First Division College Player Draft.

A Montreal native, Mathieu Savaria is a tenacious defender and an exceptional athlete. He was named to the All-NEC Second Team with Fairleigh Dickinson University in 2003 starting 19 games and missing only one to compete with the Canadian Olympic Team. A First Team All-Nec in 2002, he has developed into one of the league’s premier defenders. Some of Savaria's other notable accomplishments include Rookie of Week honors in 2001 while playing with Quebec Province U-20’s in Canada Games and being named 1999 Defender of the Year in Quebec (U-19’s). He was also a valuable member of Canada’s U-23 Olympic Team in their 2004 Qualifying campaign. "I have been following Mathieu's progress through my contacts at Fairleigh Dickinson University. He is a versatile player that can play a number of positions and comes highly recommended," added Lynx new Head Coach Hubert Busby Jr.

Tony Anderson, the Lynx second round pick, is coming off an outstanding career with the University of Vermont where he capped off a solid senior season as the Catamounts leading scorer and overall best player. The native of Northern Ireland was one of the top forwards in the America East earning First Team All-America East and All-New England honors. Busby is very optimistic about the potential of Anderson's contributions to the Lynx, stating, “Tony is a proven goal scorer at the collegiate level. We’re eager to see if he can make the adjustment at the pro level. He’s got very good skills and an excellent chance at making this team”. Anderson's talents were brought to the Lynx attention through Tom Croft, head coach of the 2004 Heartland Division Champion, Toronto Lynx Juniors U17 team.
