Match Summary:

The Lady Lynx brought their inaugural W-League season to a close today in a battle for the Northern Division title versus the visiting Ottawa Fury. The Lady Lynx presented their first annual Player Awards in a ceremony prior to kickoff. Striker, Kim Warner, the W-League's leading goal scorer was named Most Valuable Player and Best Offensive Player. Amanda Cicchini was voted the Fan Favourite Award winner and Ciara Gaizutis and Catharine Marosszeky were co-winners of the Best Defensive Player Award. On hand to present awards were Liberal Member of Parliament for Etobicoke-Lakeshore, Jean Augustine, Ontario Soccer Association President, Colin Linford, editor of Play Soccer magazine, Alfons Rubins and Canadian women's soccer super fan, Elaine Sun.

The first half started with both teams exchanging chances, but it was Ottawa who scored first. Carmelina Moscato's through ball split Toronto's defence and gave Rhian Wilkinson a breakaway. Toronto goalkeeper VanBoxmeer came out to deny her, but the ball fell to Kelly Parker who calmly shot into the empty goal.

Toronto equalized in the 23rd minute after Leah Robinson's hanball led to a Toronto penalty. Julia Ralph fireed a shot past Swiatek and into the bottom right of the goal.

Ottawa came close to retaking the lead in the 27th minute when Anie Hamel's shot from just inside the area came off the top of the crossbar. The remainder of the first half featured various chances for Ottawa, but the scoreline remained 1-1 as the first half whistle blew.

Ottawa continued to press in the second half and regained the lead five minutes in. Stacey VanBoxmeer missed punching away Kelly Allison's free kick, letting the ball fall to Carmelina Moscato who tapped into the empty goal.

Toronto came close to equalizing in the 60th minute when Kim Warner chipped over Swiatek. Her shot was on target but lacked pace, allowing Kelly Allison to clear the ball from danger. Toronto continued to search for an equalizer. A flury of shots and corners in the final ten minutes of play produced no goals for Toronto, and it was Ottawa who found the back of the net once more.

Amy Vermeulen hit Annie Hammel's low cross first time past VanBoxmeer and into the bottom right of goal in the 90th minute. That was the last meaningful play of the match, and it was 3-1 to visiting Ottawa as full time sounded.
