Essex, Vermont- The Toronto Lady Lynx proved why they are the top team in the Northern Division of the W-League beating the Vermont Lady Voltage 3-0 tonight in Essex. It was an amazing night for women's soccer, and a game that left the Lady Voltage frustrated. Both teams played outstanding, but the Lady Lynx made no mistakes and was able to put the ball in the net. The Lady Voltage made a couple mistakes and it cost them the game.

The Vermont Lady Voltage fall to 5-7-0, while the Toronto Lady Lynx improves to 8-2-0 and pick up three points to keep their lead in the Northern Division standings.

In the first half both teams looked strong and were playing exceptionally. The Lady Voltage and the Lady Lynx had great chances for goals, but outstanding goaltending by Kristin Luckenbill for the Voltage and Anne Ogundale for Toronto kept the game scoreless. Lady Voltage players Amy Cochran, Emily Tracy and Karen Burke were all trying to make things happen, but they could not connect. Burke had a few beautiful crosses but there was not a Lady Voltage player there to help her out. The Lady Voltage had good control over the first half and held possession much better than they previously had against Toronto.

In the second half the game became much more challenging for the Lady Voltage. Quick forward Kim Warner upset the Lady Voltage's chances for a win.

In the 52nd minute Kim Warner got possession of the ball and streaked down the far side of the field. Luckenbill came out to try and make the save, but Warner slammed the ball right past her.

Then in the 63rd minute a defensive error cost the Lady Voltage, as the Lynx scored again. The Lady Lynx cleared the ball out of their zone, and past defender Michelle Barr. Barr tried to clear the ball to Luckenbill, but did not see Warner on her side. Warner got possession and again sprinted past Barr and sent one right past Luckenbill.

The Lady Voltage tried their hardest to stay in the game, and fighting every second to get on the board. Despite their effort it was the Lady Lynx, who got on the board again in the 73rd minute. This time the goal came from Julia Ralph, for the Lady Lynx's third unassisted goal of the night. Ralph chipped the ball into the Lady Voltage net.

Despite the loss this was one of the best games of the season for the Lady Voltage. They had 18 shots on goal, which is their highest for the season. The Toronto Lady Lynx had 19.

Luckenbill had 10 saves, while Ogundale had 11. Luckenbill was proud of her team for their play, but disappointed with the result. "This is the best we have possessed the ball all year, but unfortunately the score doesn't always reflect how we played."

Coach Jamie Hutchins felt the same way as Luckenbill. "We dominated the play for 80 percent of the time, but Kim Warner is the fastest player in the League and got the better of our defender twice."

Overall Hutchins said his team played brilliantly and was great all over the field, but two mistakes put them down 2-0. "We played great except for putting the ball in the back of the net," Hutchins said.

The next Lady Voltage home game is Saturday, July 9th at 5:30 p.m. at the Collins Perley Sports Complex in St. Albans. The Lady Voltage will host the Long Island Lady Riders.
