New York dropped their first match 2-0 at home to New Jersey. New York looked to improve the form that led them to a record of 3-11-0 last season. Kim Warner, who scored two goals during Toronto's win after being introduced as a second half substitute, was in today's starting eleven for Toronto. Toronto started well and tested New York goalkeeper Ronale Mckenzie three times before 10 minutes had gone by. Deana Everrett opened the scoring after 20 minutes. Everrett picked up the ball after a New York giveaway and slotted it by McKenzie. Toronto came close to scoring again in the 31st minute when Rosamaria Rago's shot had to be tipped over the bar by McKenzie. Toronto did make it 2-0 right before the half. Amanda Cicchini's cross was controlled by Melanie Booth who ran in and tapped the ball by an oncoming McKenzie. It was 2-0 as the halftime whistle blew. Toronto controlled most of the possession throughout the first interval, and outshot New York 13-1. Toronto continued their fine form in the second half. Joanna Alexopolus' cross in the 58th minute sailed in dangerously close but was not connected with. New York's best chance came in the 66th minute when Noelle Meeke's cross found a perfectly positioned Jayne Ludlow who fumbled the ball and sent it over the crossbar. The pace of the game slowed after 70 minutes, but picked back up with about 10 minutes left. Kim Warner almost found the back of the net in the 86th minute when she ran onto a through ball but was unable to beat McKenzie. Injury time saw Holly Lincoln's shot come off the top of the crossbar. It was 2-0 to the Lady Lynx as the final whistle blew. Stacey VanBoxmeer held on for her first shutout of the season, although not being forced into a save through 90 minutes. Kim Warner was impressive again, using her pace to outrun New York defenders all afternoon. Today's result leaves the Lady Lynx with two wins from their first two matches, while New York now has two losses in as many games.
