Vermont Lady Voltage vs Toronto Lady Lynx

The Vermont Lady Voltage lost a long and exciting game to the Toronto Lady Lynx on Sunday at the Centennial Stadium. At the end of regulation the teams were tied 1-1, but the Lady Lynx were triumphant scoring twice in double overtime.

Although they did not end up victorious, the Lady Voltage was the first to get on the scoreboard. In the 36th minute of the game Marie-Michele Bouchard placed a perfect ball to Ashley Pfaff who sent a left-footed shot right under the goalkeeper. This is the first goal for the senior from Rice Memorial High School and Far Post Youth Soccer Club. College and national team players largely dominate the W-League, and it is huge for a high school player to see such early success.

The Lady Voltage led the game for eight minutes until the Lady Lynx tied the game in the 43rd minute.

The second half was scoreless, but the Lady Lynx dominated the ball in the midfield. The Lady Voltage defense led by Michelle Barr and the skills of goalkeeper Kristin Luckenbill kept the team alive in the game.

The Lady Lynx dominated overtime play scoring twice to keep the Lady Voltage from their second straight victory of the weekend. Lady Voltage Coach Jamie Hutchins is proud of his team, who showed great determination and enthusiasm throughout the entire game, despite being tired from yesterdays contest and traveling over 16 hours in the last two days. They just ran out of gas in overtime, Hutchins said.

The Lady Voltages record is now 1-1. The next game is Lady Voltage home opener on May 27th at 5:30 p.m. at the Collins Perley Sports Complex in St. Albans.
