BRAMPTON, NORTH YORK, ST. CATHARINES WIN, BLUE DEVILS AND LONDON CITY TIE 2-2

Brampton Stallions, North York Astros and St. Catharines Wolves all recorded wins, while Oakville Blue Devils and London City played to a tie in a busy schedule of games in the Canadian Professional Soccer League Sunday.

Brampton Stallions had an easy time at home against a struggling Durham Storm in an afternoon encounter at Victoria Park and it was midfielders Mladen Dikic and Adolfo Mella who did most of the damage, each scoring two first half goals in the shutout.

North York Astros surprised Vaughan Shooters with a strong performance at Esther Shiner Stadium to turn the tables and come away with a 2-1 victory over a Vaughan squad on top of the Eastern Conference standings following its 2-0 victory over the Astros on Friday night.

But Sunday was a different time and a different outcome with Joseph Feijoo opening the scoring for North York at the 38th minute mark for 1-0 at the interval. Alex Braletic continued his consistent scoring to make it 2-0 for the North York tea four minutes into the second half and at 65 minutes Shooters were on the scoresheet with a goal by Danny Sanna from the penalty spot following a hand ball in the penalty area.

Astros'scorer Feijoo was ejected together with Vaughan defender Justin Phillips following an altercation at the 43rd minute mark and Gabriel Salguero of Vaughan Shooters was also ordered off on a second caution just on half time.

Oakville captain Phil Ionadi opened the scoring for the home side at Bronte Stadium, but London City's Abukari Adams struck in quick succession at 35 and 37 minutes for a 2-1 London lead at half-time. Blue Devils' forward Marko Bedenikovic tied the game at the 62nd. minute mark. London lost Erik Elmauer at 88 minutes on being shown a red card.

St. Catharines Wolves continued their improved play following two recent mid-week wins to make it three in a row with a 4-1 victory over Toronto Supra at Brockton Stadium. St. Catharines led 4-0 close to the final whistle on two goals by Ashley McMillan at 21 and 52 minutes, while Frank Del Priore made it 3-0 at 77 minutes and Jeffery Attard made it 4-0 at the 90th minute mark. Frederico Araya scored the lone Supra just before the final whistle.

Vaughan Shooters remain in second spot in the Eastern Conference with a 6-3-3 WLT record for 21 points, while North York Astros are in 5th position with a 4-8-0 record for 12 points, just under Toronto Supra with their 3-5-3 record for 12 points in fourth position due to a superior goal average. Durham Storm remain at the foot of the eastern standings with a 1-10-1 record for 4 points.

Oakville Blue Devils continue on top of the Western Conference following Sunday's tie. They have a 7-1-3 record for 24 points above Hamilton Thunder and London City in third with a 5-6-3 record for 18 points. Brampton improves to a 4-4-4 record for 16 points in the west following Sunday's win.

In Women's Canada Cup action, Durham Region Allstars defeated Toronto Supra District Allstars 1-0 and York Region Lady Shooters defeated North York District Allstars, also by a 1-0 score.
