ST. CATHARINES DEFEAT ASTROS AT CLUB ROMA
Wednesday - August 3, 2005

St. Catharines Wolves took advantage of a North York Astros team reduced to 10 men after just 32 minutes of play to win 2-1 at Club Roma in St. Catharines, the only game played in the Canadian Professional Soccer League Wednesday.

The Garden City team took the lead at the 28th minute mark on a goal by Chiek Diarra and it was just four minutes later that Astros' midfielder Raffy Der Bedrossian was judged to have unfairly challenged Wolves' goalkeeper Claudio Perri, resulting in Der Bedrossian being shown the red card.

North York's prolific Alex Braletic tied the game at 39 minutes and the 1-1 score held up for most of the second half during which the Astros had opportunities to take the lead.

But it was Ashley McMillan who struck the vital game winner for St. Catherines when he slotted the ball past Astros' goalkeeper Arthur Zaslavski at the 81st minute mark after collecting a right wing cross from Mirnes Biscevic.

It was St. Catharines' second victory in a week to take the home side to an improved 4-6-1 WLT record for 13 points, good for 4th place in the Western Conference, while North York remains in 5th position with 10 points in the east.
