THUNDER WIN 2-0, WHILE CONFERENCE LEADERS CROATIA AND BLUE DEVILS TIE 1-1
Friday - July 29, 2005

Hamilton Thunder took over second position in the Western Conference standings with a 2-0 shutout of London City at Brian Timmis Stadium in Hamilton, while two teams leading the way in their respective conferences, Oakville Blue Devils and Toronto Croatia, finished deadlocked 1-1 in a hard fought sometimes physical encounter at a game relocated to Shell Park in Oakville, the only two games played in the Canadian Professional Soccer League Thursday.

Hamilton Thunder missed several opportunities to win by a greater margin, but did find the net twice in scoring a goal in each half over a slipping London City. Juan Cruz Real struck the first goal almost on the half-time whistle to put Thunder ahead 1-0 at the interval, while in the second half Ian Bennett made it 2-0 at 65 minutes with a run down the wing to find the corner of the net.

Toronto Croatia took a first half lead on a spectacular goal by Caswain Mason from 45 yards at the 13th minute mark, a high strike that dipped in time to find the net just under the crossbar and at the 35th minute mark Oakville captain Phil Ionadi tied the score 1-1 on a penalty kick, a score that held up to the end. The game was played at nearby Shell Park due to poor ground conditions at Bronte Stadium following heavy rain.

Toronto Croatia stay on top of the Eastern Conference standings with a 6-1-3 WLT record for 21 points, while Blue Devils hold on to their top position in the Western Conference with a 6-1-2 for 20 points, just a point ahead of improving Hamilton Thunder with their record of 5-2-4 for 19 points. London City are without a win since July 6 and drop to third in the west with a 5-6-1 record for 16 points.
