OTTAWA ROYALS, LAVAL AND LONDON CITY ADVANCE
Friday - July 1, 2005

There was an added celebration in the capital on Canada Day when amateur team Ottawa Royals of the Ottawa Carleton Soccer League eliminated the CPSL’s Durham Storm in the Open Canada Cup Second Round, part of a double header at the Terry Fox Stadium in Ottawa on Friday. In two other Open Canada Cup Second Round games Laval Dynamites defeated Ottawa St. Anthony Italia, 1-0, and London City scored an emphatic 3-1 victory over Oakville Blue Devils at The Cove in London.

Royals’ forward Dan Chaney scored the winner for his team at the 76th minute mark following a move up the right wing by Roland Tiamuh, the spark plug in the Ottawa Royals’ attack who was considered to be the most outstanding player in the game. The game was held up for 12 minutes in the second half during a thunderstorm.

Laval Dynamites midfielder Radek Majkowski struck the winning goal for the Quebec team at the 94th minute mark, a Golden Goal following a 0-0 tie at the end of 90 minutes for a 1-0 final result in the opening game of the Ottawa well-attended double header. London City were full measure for the victory with a strong showing in a 3-1 win over Oakville Blue Devils. Eris Tafaj led the way with two goals at the 53rd minute and 72nd minute mark after Miguel Knox opened the scoring for London City after just 8 minutes. The lone Blue Devils’ marker came from Egor Protran.
