Result of the Monday July 4, 2005 CPSL game between Toronto Supra and Vaughan Shooters played at Brockton Stadium in Toronto at 8:30pm. This was a second round game of the Open Canada Cup.

30 min...VS Humphrey gets ball up middle at 25 yards, rounds TS goalie as he runs left but cuts in roller 10 yard shot that hits left post and bounces back in play for clearance.

88 min...VS DeThomasis given pass up middle but checked before getting away shot, it soon happens again on edge of box.
91 min...Shooters Jason De Thomasis GOAL...De Thomasis is given a short pass in box after Supra defender Federico Araya slips on edge of box and he slides in 12 yard shot into right corner beyond goalie Michael Silva.
92 min...VS goalie makes big save on shot from left.
93 min...VS goalie catches 25 yard shot from right.
94 min...TS Llewellyn 20 yard bouncing shot is caught by goalie.

Attendance was about 150 people on this very hot and humid night.
This was a very rough game with plenty of Yellow cards and three ejections. One of the fans called out "We didn't come out to see you Ref" however a minute later the fan screamed out that a card should be given out to one of the Shooters players. At least referee Calin Pintea let it be known early what kind of game he would put up with as he gave Supra midfielder Selmir Sehic a Yellow card at the one minute mark for piling in to Shooters defender Fitzroy Christie upending him near the sideline in Shooters end.
In my opinion every card was deserved. The referee even explained to a fan why he blew a whistle to stop play for an injury in the 82 minute. Shooters Jorge Molina was injured after a hard check near the sideline but the Supra players in their own end elected to play on instead of kicking the ball out of play. One of them said Molina was already off the field so not interfering in play. Suddenly the ball hit a Shooters player's knee and two players were in the open for a break but the referee blew his whistle. He told the fan he looked back and saw for the first time the player bleeding so that's when he called play. Dewayne Wright replaced Molina two minutes later. Sliding tackles were easy tonight after the rain that had fallen earlier in the day.
Supra goalie Michael Silva had Shooters player go around him a few times in the games when he played out and spilled a few saves but he had the opponents hit the goalpost at least twice. Shooters seemed to get more break-ins AFTER they became the team that was a man down! Greg Drakes earned the shutout for the Shooters. He had less to do but was up to some crucial saves. The Supra efforts in the last twenty minutes were mostly well off target being blasted over the net.
Jason De Thomasis was the hero of the game scoring on about his tenth attempt. He was given the ball about three times all alone in the box and was checked before getting away a shot. He was given a Yellow card for a dive on the edge of the Supra box which many in the crowd misinterpreted as a Supra Yellow card until the free kick was given to the Supra. Shooters strategy had to change early when forward and dead-ball specialist Joey Todaro had to be subbed at 17 minutes after he got to a ball that that the goalie bobbled that he'd slid out for and a defender retreated to clear it and the impact hurt Todaro. Jorge Molina was also replaced through injury later in the game. A Shooters player who'd just been injured had the indignity of a Supra player clearing the ball out of the box just as a whistle blew and the ball hit the prone player with tremendous force.
One happy guy must have been the Durham Storm manager who was watching and probably loved the cards given out because the Storm will be playing the Shooters within two weeks. Actually Laval would be happier because they play Shooters this weekend when the suspensions will be in effect.
