LES DYNAMITES NIP BORDER STARS 1-0
Saturday - June 25, 2005
Laval Dynamites registered their second win in as many days with a 1-0 defeat of Border Stars at the Notre Dame ground in Auburn Hills, the only game played in the Canadian Professional Soccer League Saturday.
The Quebec-based side upset Western Conference leaders London City 4-1 on Friday night in their back-to-back weekend swing through Southwestern Ontario and Michigan.
Nasson Theosmy, who capped Friday’s game with the fourth goal in the one-sided victory, struck again at the 22nd minute against Border Stars when he directed a well-placed header past Border Stars goalkeeper Anthony Santilli and the goal held up to the final whistle.
The win improves Les Dynamites to a 3-2-0 WLT record for 9 points and second to leaders Toronto Croatia in the Eastern Conference standings, while Border Stars suffered their fourth loss for a 2-4-0 record for six points to remain in fifth position.
In Women’s Canada Cup action on the same ground earlier in the day, London City Selects defeated Border Stars Women, 2-1. Jessica Vanyk opened the scoring for the London side after 7 minutes, but Liz Ridgeway tied the score for the Windsor-based women just before half-time. Melissa Elie struck the winner for London Selects at the 87th minute mark.
