LAVAL DYNAMITES, BORDER STARS IN PLAYOFFS

Laval Dynamites and Border Stars are in the playoffs following wins in the Canadian Professional Soccer League Saturday. Laval nipped Toronto Supra by a 2-1 score in brilliant afternoon sunshine before a good crowd at Brockton Stadium, while Border Stars made no mistake in defeating Brampton Stallions, 4-1, at Windsor Stadium in the evening game.

Michael DiLuca got Supra off on the right foot with a goal at the the 15th minute mark, but Mohamed Ridouani tied the score at 17 minutes for Laval and Arturo Cisneros-Salas struck the winner for the Quebec-based team just four minutes later. Laval have a 11-7-3 WLT record after also picking up three points from a game put in default by the suspension of Durham Storm, for a total 36 points and third place in the Eastern Conference which means a berth in the playoffs. Toronto Supra are at 7-7-7 for 28 points.

Aaron Byrd, the prolific striker with Border Stars led his team with two goals in the 4-1 win over Brampton Stallions and this lifts the former University of Detroit forward to 20 goals for the season and the leading position for the CPSL goalscoring title.

Byrd struck at the first goal at just three minutes and the final goal at 72 minutes, while team-mate Radek Papiez ( 46 minutes) and Marcus Chrovat (11 minutes) scored singles. Kurt Mella scored the lone Brampton goal at 64 minutes.

Border Stars secured the third and final playoff berth with a 8-10-4 record for 28 points. Brampton Stallions have completed their season with a 5-9-8 record for 23 points.

There are three games Sunday and the regular season concludes with a game at Streetsville Memorial Park on Monday. The playoffs get underway Tuesday night through to the CPSL Championship Final game on Thanksgiving Day, October 10.
