LONDON CITY LEAD THE WAY WITH 1-0 VICTORY

Saturday - June 18, 2005

London City scored their third shutout win and their fourth of the season when defeating Vaughan Shooters 1-0 at Cove Road in London on Friday and in the only other game played in the Canadian Professional Soccer League, Toronto Supra scored a 4-2 victory over Durham Storm in a chippy, physical encounter at the Civic Stadium in Oshawa.

Midfielder Karim Bensari struck the only goal for London when he beat Vaughan ‘keeper Gregory Drakes at the 48th minute and that was the second time in the short season Bensari scored the lone goal winner, following his important strike on June 12 to defeat Brampton Stallions. Vaughan ended the game with 10 men following the ejection of Fitzroy Christie at the 88th minute.

It was London City goalkeeper Haidar Al Shaibani’s third shutout in five games played and City improve to 4-1-0 WLT for 12 points, enough to keep the Southwestern Ontario squad on top of the Western Conference standings with 12 points.

Vaughan Shooters stay on top of the Eastern Conference despite the loss, they now have a 1-2-2 record for 5 points.

Toronto Supra scored an impressive win in a game that was frequently physical to the end. Midfielder Adrian Llewellyn scored twice for Supra, while Daniel Nasginento and Sabastian Busto each scored singles. The Durham goals came from Edson Breceda and Grahame Nicholson. Storm defender Scott McDavid was taken off the field and kept under observation with concussion in an incident that produced one of a number of yellow cards.

It was Supra’s first win of the season and they have a 1-2-0 record for three points while Durham are still winless at 0-3-1 for one point.
