CROATIA VS. SHOOTERS CLASH RESCHEDULED FOR FRIDAY AT THE SOCCER CENTRE

The Oakville Blue Devils home encounter with Durham Storm scheduled for Bronte Stadium Thursday was cancelled, there was a violation of the CPSL rules and Durham Storm was assessed a $10,000 fine by CPSL commissioner Cary Kaplan as a result of the violation.

The CPSL also announced Thursday night that the attention-drawing Eastern Conference showdown between Toronto Croatia and Vaughan Shooters in the ongoing struggle by both teams to capture the Eastern Conference title, will be played Friday at The Soccer Centre in Vaughan, a 9 p.m. kickoff. The game was postponed on Wednesday night.

The Durham Storm violation resulted also in the game being awarded to Oakville Blue Devils by a 2-0 score as provided for in the rules, which means the Blue Devils have a 10-4-7 WLT record for 37 points from 21 games at the top of the Western Conference standings. They have one game remaining - with second team in the standings Hamilton Thunder, which has 34 points also from 21 games. This final regular league game for both teams before they enter the playoffs is scheduled for Sunday evening at Bronte Stadium, a 7 pm kickoff. Durham Storm now has a 1-18-1 record at the foot of the Eastern Conference standings.

At the top, a win or tie would give the team from Oakville the Western Conference title in its inaugural year and a Hamilton win would mean the teams would be tied on points requiring an additional one-game decider to be played between these two clubs. They have fought for top honours most of the season.

In the Western Conference, the winner goes straight to the semifinals while the second place team in the standings meets the third place team in a playoff, the winner going to the semifinals.

The CPSL tie-breaking criteria are:

THE TOP TWO TEAMS TIED ON POINTS IN A CONFERENCE:
In the event of two teams tied on points at the top of a conference, there shall be a one-game play-off to determine the Conference Champion. MORE THAN TWO TEAMS TIED ON POINTS WITHIN A CONFERENCE:
In the event of more than two teams tied on points, there shall be a playoff to determine the Conference Champion. The Competitions Committee shall determine the exact format of any Conference Championship playoff.

OTHER TEAMS TIED ON POINTS WITHIN A CONFERENCE:
If two or more teams are tied on points in the standings (other than for first place), the following criteria shall be used in the order given, to determine the team(s) to be awarded the higher position:
(i) Result between the two teams in regular league play.
(ii) Most wins.
(iii) Goal difference (goals scored less goals conceded)
. (iv) Most goals scored.

The first tiebreaker is only applicable for a tie involving two teams.
