CROATIA BLANKS DURHAM 6-0 TUESDAY, MEET EASTERN RIVALS VAUGHAN SHOOTERS WEDNESDAY
Tuesday - September 27, 2005

Toronto Croatia were in full control to defeat Durham Storm 6-0 at Oshawa Civic Stadium in the only game scheduled in the Canadian Professional Soccer League Tuesday.

Croatia midfielder Hayden Fitzwilliams opened the scoring at the 7th minute mark for the visitors, his 8th of the season, and this was followed up with two goals from Andrija Botica, at 18 and 62 minutes and two by forward Leo Laurito at 29 and 44 minutes. Jason Shonnon scored at 43 minutes.

Despite conceding five goals, Durham goalkeeper Brian Edwards, considered one of the bright under-21 prospects in the region, played a solid game to keep the final score at 6-0.

The win puts Croatia in a position poised for a bid at the Eastern Conference title with a 12-2-6 WLT record for 43 points, three points behind leaders Vaughan Shooters. These two teams meet at Streetsville Memorial Park Wednesday, an 8 p.m. kickoff.

Both teams have qualified for the CPSL playoffs.
