CROATIA CREEP CLOSER WITH 2-0 VICTORY, SUPRA STILL IN PLAYOFF HUNT WITH 4-1 WIN WHILE OAKVILLE, BORDER STARS TIE 2-2
Saturday - September 24, 2005

Toronto Croatia crept closer to Eastern Conference leaders Vaughan Shooters with a 2-0 victory over Laval Dynamites, Oakville Blue Devils are back on top of the Western Conference standings, but only on goal average following a 2-2 tie with Border Stars, and Toronto Supra kept their playoff hopes alive with a 4-1 win over Durham Storm, all three games played in the Canadian Professional Soccer League Saturday.

Two goals by Antonijo Zupan late in the game at the Streetsville Memorial Park did the trick for Croatia against Les Dynamites, the goals coming at 82 and 89 minutes in a game that saw the Mississauga-based team lose Roman Harapyn and Peter Curic with red cards, while visiting Patrick Geffard of Laval Dynamites was also ejected.

Toronto Croatia have lost just two games in the 19 regular league games played, the least defeats in the league and are now in second place with a 11-2-6 WLT record for second place in the Eastern Conference, three points behind leading Vaughan Shooters.

Aaron Byrd kept up his goalscoring pace with a single for Border Stars in the 2-2 tie with Oakville Blue Devils, the tall striker still ahead with 18 goals in the CPSL scoring race.

That's just one ahead of Gabriel Pop who also notched a single for Oakville Blue Devils following his remarkable 7 goal spree in the 12-1 win over Durham Storm on Thursday. Other goals were scored by midfielder Sergio De Luca for the Blue Devils and David Dwaihy for Border Stars who tied the game at 82 minutes.

The tie put Oakville back on top of the Western Conference with a 9-4-7 record, tied on points at 34 apiece with Hamilton Thunder, but the Blue Devils have a superior goal average.Toronto Supra picked up a handy three points with a 4-1 win over Durham Storm to keep the Toronto west end team alive in their bid for the third playoff position. Michael DiLuca scored twice for Supra, while Daniel Nascimento and George Carvalho scored singles. Yasuhiro Sasayama scored the only Durham goal.

Toronto Supra now have a 6-6-7 record for 25 points and still in the playoff hunt but five points behind third place Laval. Durham Storm are at 1-16-1 for 4 points at the foot of the Eastern Conference standings.
