PAPIEZ SCORES LAST MINUTE WINNER FOR BORDER STARS
Wednesday - September 14, 2005

Border Stars' forward Radek Papiez was the opportunist to pick-up the ball on a goalkeeper miscue at the 90th minute to score the only goal and winner for his team in a 1-0 victory over St. Catharines Wolves in the only game played in the Canadian Professional Soccer League Wednesday night.

St. Catharines' goalkeeper Claudio Perri was the victim of slippery conditions following second half rain at the Club Roma ground and in failing to keep his footing allowed the 32 year-old veteran goalscorer to grab the opportunity.

The game to that point was an even contest with a slight edge to the home side with several chances to win the game, but Border Stars took the three points and remained in contention as the 4-way battle for a for a playoff position continues.

Border Stars, with their 7-10-2 WLT record for 23 points are now tied with Brampton Stallions and both teams are one point in front of St. Catharines (6-10-4 for 22 points) and London City with 5-10-4 for 19 points. St. Catharines have just two away games remaining.
