London, Oakville Wins Create Three-Way Tie
Monday - June 13, 2005

Oakville Blue Devils moved into a three-way tie for the top position in the Western Conference standings following a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over Laval Dynamites at Bronte Stadium in Oakville Sunday.

In other games in the Canadian Professional Soccer League Sunday, London City scored their third win in four starts by defeating Brampton Stallions 1-0, St. Catharines Wolves shutout North York Astros 2-0 on the new surface at Esther Shiner Stadium and Vaughan Shooters squeaked past Toronto Supra, 3-2, in a game that saw three goals in the first six minutes at the Etobicoke Centennial Stadium.

The Oakville clash with visiting Laval playing their first game since 2003, was a chippy, physical encounter in which Mohammad Ridovan put the Quebec side ahead 1-0 after 20 minutes. But the lead was short-lived when Igor Prostran tied the game for the Blue Devils, a 1-1 halftime score. Jamie Fairweather scored the winner for Oakville at 82 minutes to move his team into a position tied at the top of the standings with Hamilton Thunder and London City, each having nine points

Karim Bensari scored the only goal for London City at 33 minutes in the home opener for Brampton Stallions at Victoria Park in Brampton, a win that gives London a 3-1-0 WLT start to the season and one of three at the top of the Western Conference. St. Catharines Wolves blanked North York Astros 2-0 to give the Garden City team its first win of the season in three starts. Defender Matt Waddington opened the scoring for St. Catharines at the 8th minute and Mirnes Boscevic made it 2-0 at the 85th minute mark.

It was a see-saw encounter at Centennial Stadium which saw Charles Darkwah open the scoring for Supra after just two minutes, Danny Amaral made it 2-0 for the Toronto team three minutes later and within sixty seconds Shooters’ Joey Todaro cut the lead to 2-1 to start the come-back that led to the Vaughan victory. Desmond Humphrey tied the game 2-2 at 54 minutes and Daryl Gomez struck the winner for Vaughan Shooters two minutes later.
