LYNX’ ALI GERBA SETS RECORD!

Thursday, June 10, 2004 (TORONTO, ON) – Coming off the best game of his A-League career, Lynx striker, Ali Gerba, has been named to the A-League Team of the Week for the 8th Week of the season. Gerba exploded for 3 goals and an assist in a Lynx 5-1 victory over the Puerto Rico Islanders on June 6th. With Puerto Rico in town once again yesterday, Gerba maintained his form by scoring 2 more goals in the Lynx’ 3-2 victory. Gerba’s performance set a new Lynx record for points in a game with 7 and equaled the Lynx mark held by Michele Gioia, Nikki Vignjevic and Francisco Dos Santos for goals in a game. With his offensive outburst, Gerba vaulted into second place in the A-League in points with 16 and goals with 7. This would be a first for the Lynx having a Lynx player finish the season in the league’s top ten in points.

LYNX TO MEET RED HOT ATLANTA ON SUNDAY!

Riding a 2-game win streak, the Lynx will meet the red hot Atlanta Silverbacks on Sunday, June 13th with a 6 p.m. kickoff for the annual Emergency Services Night when the Lynx honour all the bodies that keep our city safe. The Silverbacks have won 4 straight matches including victories over the defending A-League champion, the Charleston Battery, the previously unbeaten Portland Timbers and perennial title contending, Rochester Raging Rhinos, to build their record to 5-3-1 on the season. With this week’s wins, the Lynx have improved to 4-6-0 and jumped into 5th place in the Eastern Conference just 6 points back of Atlanta for the Eastern Conference’s 4th and final playoff spot.

The Lynx will be without several key players Sunday, as defender, Josue Mayard, and striker, John Barry Nusum, have been called up for National Team World Cup Qualifiers. Midfielder/defender, Adrian Serioux and defender, Lewis Blois, will also be out of action due to suspensions.

LYNX SCHEDULE CHANGE!

The Lynx management reminds fans that the match originally scheduled for next Tuesday, June 15th versus the Virginia Beach Mariners has been rescheduled for Wednesday, August 18th at 7:30 p.m. at Centennial Park Stadium due to a conflict with the US Open Cup. All tickets for the June 15th match will be honoured on August 18th.

LYNX PLAYERS AT THE DOCKS THIS SATURDAY!

The Toronto Lynx players will be strutting their stuff this Saturday, June 12th from 1-3pm at The Docks Entertainment Complex located on the waterfront as part of the unveiling of the brand new Soccer GoalStriker Machine on the patio. The GoalStriker pits the participant against a projected goalkeeper whose movements are calculated and based on the reactions of professional goalkeepers in European soccer leagues. Soccer fans who are looking for soccer activities this weekend are invited to challenge themselves against the Lynx who represent the highest level of play in Canada. Scores tabulated by the Machine will allow comparisons with the world’s best.
