SUDBURY, ONT -- On a scorching Saturday afternoon at Cambrian College in Sudbury, Ontario, the Toronto Inferno outlasted the hometown Canadians 4-2 in W-League soccer action.

Kate Bazos opened the scoring in the 25th minute on a feed from Chiara Greco.

Bazos turned creator when she set up a Naomi Eguchi tally in the 37th minute.

Shortly afterwards, Cat Panabaker left the game early due to illness aggravated by the humid conditions. Both teams had their moments of heat exhaustion. The Inferno suffered from such a spell at the beginning of the second half and the result was two Sudbury goals coming from Lauren Podolski and Meghan Schutt in the 50th and 64th minutes respectively to tie the match.

A 77th minute marker by Collison, from Greco, fulfilled a promise she had made to her father prior to getting on the bus bound for Sudbury.

Collison posted the exclamation mark as she set up Kirsten Turner for the latter’s first goal of the season with less than five minutes of official time remaining.

Goalkeeper Annie Witko notched her first win of the 2004 campaign for the Inferno.

"Our team was able to play around the conditions," commented Inferno Head Coach Tom McManus.

"We created a lot of scoring chances and were fortunate enough to capitalize on four of them."

Saturday’s victory raises Toronto’s record to 3-7 while Sudbury (0-11) continues to look for that elusive first W-League regular season win.

The Inferno’s next game is Friday, July 16 at Vaughan’s Ontario Soccer Centre against the New Jersey Wildcats. Kickoff time is 7 p.m. It will be the Inferno’s final regular season home game for 2004.
