TORONTO, ONT -- Despite playing without three Canadian National team members the Montreal Xtreme completed a two game road sweep this weekend with a hard fought 1-0 victory over the Toronto Inferno.

For the second game in a row, Montreal's young striker Josée Bélanger scored the winning goal, giving the Montreal Xtreme a second victory in as many nights.

The Coaticook native, scored in the 69th minute after the two teams could not convert numerous scoring chances in the first half. On the play, Myriam Gousse (Brossard) made an exceptional pass to Bélanger, who beat the defense for her 10th goal of the season. With her 23 points, she is now ranked fourth in the W-League’s scoring race.

“I’m very happy right now, said the 18-years-old Bélanger. We are doing very well and I’m proud to be part of that winning team. Once again, we showed that that we are a quality team that will impress until the end of the season.”

“We really played well, said Alex Da Rocha, Xtreme’s Head-coach. The team that we faced tonight was a stronger team than the one we hosted in May. I’m very satisfied with the play of our girls. What they have accomplished so far is incredible for an expansion team. Don’t forget that several players were missing due to commitments with the Canadian National Team.”

Stacey Vanboxmeer had another good game in Xtreme’s nets. She made three key saves for her third shutout of the campaign. The Xtreme dominated 19-8 in shots.

The three points give the Xtreme a six-point-lead over the third place Rochester Ravens who they defeated on Friday evening by a score of 3-2. The Montreal team hopes to solidify its position in second place in the North-Central division to insure a first round playoff game at home. The Xtreme’s record is now 8-2-0.

Alex Da Rocha’s team will try to successfully conclude its third straight road game with a victory over the Rhode Island Lady Stingrays, on Sunday, July 11th, at 3:30 PM.
