INFERNO ANNOUNCE NEW HEAD COACH

(TORONTO, ONTARIO) The Toronto Inferno Soccer Club of North America’s W-League is pleased to announce that Tom McManus will be the team’s new head coach beginning with the 2004 campaign. McManus takes over for Tony Marmo, who chose to step down and concentrate on his duties as team president, general manager and director of soccer operations. Marmo had been the only head coach in the team’s W-League history, dating back to 1998.

McManus, a native of Scotland, brings a wealth of coaching experience from Saskatchewan, Ontario, Manitoba and British Columbia. Most recently, McManus was club head coach of Port Moody Soccer Club in British Columbia. The following is a list of Mr. McManus’ other coaching hi-lites:
• Head coach, McMaster University men’s soccer team, 1983-86, 1990
• Technical director, Saskatchewan Soccer Association, 1986-90
• Head coach, Winnipeg Fury, Canadian Soccer League, 1991-92
• Led Fury to 1992 Mita Cup playoff championship
• Technical Director, Manitoba Soccer Association, 1992-94
• Head coach, University of Saskatchewan men’s soccer team, 1995-96
• Assistant coach, Canadian national women’s soccer team, 1992-94
• Head coach, Vancouver Angels, Women’s Premier Soccer League, 2000
• Head coach, UBC Alumni – six-time British Columbia women’s provincial champions
• ‘A’ Licence coach with the Canadian Soccer Association and Scottish Football Association

"I am looking forward to the season and our plan is to entertain the people who come and watch us play,” said McManus.

Besides coaching the W-League team, McManus will also be director of the club’s soccer academy clinics.

“I wasn’t going to give up the coaching duties unless a high quality individual was available to take over,” said Marmo.

“It is difficult to step away from the coaching but I am happy to see that the team is being left in good hands.”
