Attendance was about 70 on this warm sunny day.
Lions played the last 70 minutes of the game shorthanded. They later had to substitute goalie Gregory Drakes with usual outfield player Ainsley Romany as Drakes was hurt when he blocked a shot out of his box near the end of the first half and he was limping for the first ten minutes of the second half until the bench officials decided to substitute him.
Toronto Croatia couldn't get a good shot on Romany as the Lions defenders blocked them and the Croatian timing was off leading to a continuation of offside passes and delays in shooting that had continued the whole game.
Star of the game was the tall defender Justin Phillips who was the big man with timely headers to break up Toronto Croatia crosses and to set up Lions plays. The quick throw-in to an unmarked Dorneval for the winning goal was smart soccer but outlined the 30 yard throw-ins that he could throw into the box the whole game. Lions Gabriel Salustius was a frequent target of knocks including an elbow to the back in the centre circle.
Craig Patton who had his two goals from Thursday wiped out when the Lions lead on Vaughan Shooters was cancelled when the game was called at halftime because of a distant thunderstorm was a forward in this game too. The Lions look like one of the best teams in the league at the moment.
Wow. That was exciting. Ten men not only hanging on but beating an eleven man team! I'll probably not see that again this season.
