TORONTO (CP) - Brazilian midfielder Ze Roberto scored
twice on headers to lead the Montreal Impact to a 2-0
win over the Lynx on Saturday, spoiling Toronto's
A-League soccer home opener.
The Impact came out strong in front of the crowd of
2,555 fans at Centennial Stadium, and took the lead in
the 30th minute when Ze Roberto connected on a corner
kick from Martin Nash just inside the far post past Lynx
goalkeeper Theo Zagar. Nash, the brother of Dallas
Mavericks point-guard Steve Nash, was making his Impact
debut. The two combined again in the 52nd minute when Ze
Roberto headed in a cross from Nash past Zagar.
"Ze's biggest strength is that he's tireless," said
Impact coach Bob Lilley. "He's a two-way player who, if
you don't watch him for 90 minutes, will take advantage
of it. And that's what he did today."
Montreal 'keeper Greg Sutton earned his first shutout
of the season.
The loss dropped the Lynx to 1-1 and 5-2 overall in
home openers.
