TORONTO LYNX MEDIA RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE EXPERIENCED DUTCH DEFENDER SIGNED! April 17, 2003 (TORONTO, ON) — The Toronto Lynx solidified their defense and added much needed experience with the signing of Jan Veenhof for the 2003 season. Veenhof, 33, has an impressive professional soccer resume, including stops in Japan and Albania, in addition to his native Netherlands. He split the 2002 season between SK Tirana of Albania, where he became the first Westerner to play in the Albanian League, and Fe den Bosch of the Dutch First Division. Veenhof has also played with Omiya Ardija of the J2 League in Japan (1998-2000) and FC Groningen of the Dutch First Division (1989-1998). Over the course of his career, Veenhof has competed in the prestigious EUFA Cup and the 1989 Dutch Cup Final versus PSV Einhoven, both with FC Groningen. He also won the 2002 Albanian Supercup with SK Tirana. “Jan’s strengths are his experience, intelligence and ability to organize the defense,” states Head Coach and General Manager Peter Pinizzotto. Veenhof’s abilities will also be an asset on the training pitch, as his experience will help the development of the Lynx younger talent. The club is awaiting his international clearance at which time he will be added to the Lynx starting line-up. LYNX LEAVE FOR NEW YORK’S HOUGHTON COLLEGE CAMP The Lynx head to Houghton College in New York for training camp on Monday April 21st, for an opportunity to train without distraction and bond as a team. Training sessions will be held throughout the week in addition to exhibition matches with Houghton College on Thursday, April 24th at 7:00pm and A-League division rival Rochester Raging Rhinos on Saturday, April 26th at 7:00pm. In a show of appreciation to the Houghton Community, they will also provide soccer clinics for Houghton area youth players. Training continues the week of April 28th at Centennial Park, the Lynx home for the 2003 season, building towards the first match of the 2003 season which is a road game to the Pittsburgh Riverhounds on Saturday May 3rd at 7:30.
