LYNX SIGN FORMER ALL-STAR

(TORONTO, ON) — Joining the Lynx is
former Montreal Impact star, Guiliano Oliviero, a highly skilled offensive
midfielder. In 1995, Oliviero was A-League Rookie of the Year and a First Team
All A-League selection. He now enters his ninth A-League season after successful
stints with Vancouver, Staten
Island, in addition to the Impact.
Oliviero has 36 goals and 111 points in his A-League career and will greatly
bolster the Lynx offensive attack this season. His best A-League season was in
1998 when he
recorded 8 goals and 11 assists, totaling 27 points for
Montreal. Lynx fans will remember
Oliviero from his game-winning goal in a 2-0
loss at Montreal last May 26th.
Peter Pinizzotto, the Lynx head coach affirms,“Guiliano is quite a leader and an
experienced quality player. We are excited about his suiting up for the Lynx as
soon as the International Transfer paperwork is done!” Oliviero comes to
Toronto after an indoor season with
the Cleveland Force of MISL.
ASHTON RETURNS FOR 6TH
SEASON
Brian Ashton, one of the
Lynx’ most popular player of all time, is back for his sixth season with the
club. Ashton, 28, is a four-time winner of the Toronto Lynx Fan Favourite Award,
as well as the Lynx career leader in games (134) and minutes (10760) played.
With his Canadian style, hardnosed tackling and extraordinary work rate in
midfield, Ashton has gained the respect of teammates and opponents and the
admiration of Lynx supporters. The Sudbury, Ontario native was also the
recipient of the 2002 Toronto Lynx Public Relations Award
for his tireless efforts with the Lynx many community initiatives. Ashton’s
leadership will be needed, both on and off the field, as the Lynx resolve to
reaching the playoffs for the first time since 2000.
