TORONTO LYNX MEDIA RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ANOTHER 2 LYNX FAVOURITES ARE BACK FOR 2003! March 18, 2003 (TORONTO, ON) — The Toronto Lynx are pleased to announce the resigning of two more talented local players for the 2003 season. Midfielder, Shawn Faria, and Striker/Midfielder, Elvis Thomas, have agreed to rejoin the Lynx. These two players will be welcomed back as the Lynx prepare to open training camp for their seventh A-League season next week on March 26th at Humber College. Faria, 24, is entering his second season with the Lynx and is a product of one of the largest Youth Clubs in North America, the Oakville Soccer Club. After a strong rookie campaign, which saw him score his first professional goal, in a July 30th victory in Calgary, and record his first professional assist, in a July 22nd win over Charlotte, Faria will be counted on to continue his development in 2003 as the Lynx attempt to make the playoffs for the first time since 2000. As a qualified teacher in the Ontario Educational System, Shawn has also made a big difference to the club in providing soccer clinics to GTA schools as part of the dynamic School Program that the Lynx deliver every year. The Club also resigned a name from its record books, as Elvis Thomas, 30, returns for his fourth season in Lynx colours. Thomas scored the first goal in Lynx history on April 12th, 1997 in the franchise’s inaugural game against the Jacksonville Cyclones. He was also the Lynx Fan Favourite Award Winner for the 1997 season. Having recorded 2 game winning goals and 7 points in 2002, this Scarborough native’s goal scoring ability will a key ingredient in the Lynx success this season. AND TWO CORPORATE PARTNERS TOO…! In addition to the resigning of two key players, the Lynx would also like to welcome back two returning sponsors. National Sports returns for their second year as a Toronto Lynx sponsor. This year’s partnership will be highlighted on Wednesday, July 23rd as National Sports presents Youth Day, an annual event when the Lynx host GTA community schools, camps, community centres and youth organizations. The National Sports Events Team will be out in full force and kids in attendance will have the chance to win great prize packs courtesy of National Sports. Pro-Line, the official sports lottery of the Toronto Lynx, also returns as a Lynx corporate partner for their third consecutive season. The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation offer fans of legal age the opportunity to win big through their various lotteries. Lynx games will be no different, as final touches are being concluded for interactive features which will allow spectators to win great Pro-Line gear. -30- FOR MORE INFORMATION, CONTACT: DAVID NUTT -- MEDIA RELATIONS, TORONTO LYNX 416-251-4625, extension 30
