RENEGADES KEEP ROLLING ALONG

(TORONTO, ONTARIO) - Elizabeth Totman scored once in the first half and was credited with another goal in the second as the Boston Renegades blanked the Toronto Inferno 3-0 at Birchmount Stadium Saturday evening.

Totman put the Renegades on the scoreboard in the 23rd minute of the first half as she took advantage of an Inferno giveaway and sailed a ball past Inferno goalkeeper Anne Ogundele, off the right post and in for a 1-0 Boston lead.

In the 58th minute, the Boston forward was credited with her second goal of the night as she was the closest Renegade player to the ball when the Inferno scored an own goal.

Katie McGregor finished off the evening's scoring as she volleyed in a Katie McGregor cross from the left flank.

"Three defensive mistakes cost us three goals," said Inferno head coach Tony Marmo.

"You just can't do that against a good team like Boston and not pay for it."

At the other end of the field, the Inferno managed nine shots on goal but Meghan Frey only had to make three saves in recording her seventh shutout of the season in 11 games.

The victory gives Boston a 12-0-1 record with one regular season game remaining on Sunday afternoon, in Rochester against the Ravens. The Renegades top the Northern Division and have the most points in the W-League of 26 teams.

Toronto drops its record to 6-6-1 and will finish in third place of the Northern Division, one spot out of the playoffs.

"I thought we played a very good game until Boston scored their first goal," added Marmo.

"Then, when the second goal was scored so quickly after the first, our players just lost their shape."

The Inferno will finish off their 2003 regular season schedule with a match on Sunday, July 27 against the New Jersey Lady Stallions. Kick off time is 2 p.m. at Birchmount Stadium.
