VICTORY NOT IN THE CARDS FOR INFERNO AGAINST MAGIC

NEW ROCHELLE, NEW YORK - The New York Magic raised their record to five wins against only one loss as they defeated the visiting Toronto Inferno 4-1 in W-League soccer action Saturday afternoon.

For the Inferno, it is their first loss of the season against three victories.

Jessica Reifer and Audra Sherman provided a pair of two-goal performances for the Magic, who are now 3-1 at Mazella Field on the campus of Iona College.

Reifer got the Magic off to an early start with goals in the 26th and 31st minutes. Sherman added her first in the 33rd and capped off the Magic's scoring during the 53rd minute.

Toronto's Heather Gallacher scored her third goal of the season in the 73rd minute to provide the Inferno's lone marker.

"Despite the score, I thought the play was fairly even," said Inferno head coach Tony Marmo.

"The problem was that we made critical mistakes in our defensive zone which they (the Magic) capitalized on."

The Inferno has a week to prepare for its next match this coming Saturday against the Ottawa Fury in the nation's capital. Kick off time is slated for 2 p.m. at Keith Harris Stadium.

It will be a quick turnaround for the Inferno as it hosts the South Jersey Banshees at Scarborough's Birchmount Stadium the following day, Sunday, June 22. That match is scheduled to kick off at 2 p.m.

The Inferno defeated South Jersey 5-2 at Camden, New Jersey in May for their first victory of the season.
