Extra effort results in victory for Inferno TRENTON, NEW JERSEY - It took almost 99 minutes but the Toronto Inferno maintained its perfect record to start the 2003 W-League season with a 1-0 victory in extra time over the New Jersey Wildcats on Sunday. In the ninth minute of extra time, midfielder Candace Chapman raced down the right flank and crossed a ball to Melanie Booth. The Inferno rookie scored her first W-League goal with a volley from just outside the six-yard box. The Wildcats managed six shots on net, five of which Inferno goalkeeper Anne Ogundele saved for her first W-League shutout. "Our players were in complete control of the game and played better as a unit than Friday (in a 5-2 victory over the South Jersey Banshees)," said Head Coach Tony Marmo as the Inferno grew as a team in the Garden State. With the victory, the Inferno raises its record to two wins against no losses while the Wildcats drop to 0-3. About the Toronto Inferno: The Toronto Inferno, established in 1998, is one of three Canadian franchises competing in North America's 26-team W-League for elite women's soccer.
