INFERNO WIN SEASON OPENER

CAMDEN, NEW JERSEY - The Toronto Inferno opened the season right with a 5-2 victory over the South Jersey Banshees in W-League soccer action at Camden, New Jersey this evening.

Strikers Tina Blaskovic and Kim Warner each scored twice to lead the Inferno attack. Midfielder Jane Lea added the other visitor's goal.

While the Inferno was scoring five times at one end of the field, rookie goalkeeper Anne-Marie Witco was stopping all but two shots at the other end.

With six new players in the starting line-up, the Inferno struggled at the beginning of the match.

"We have to learn to work together better," said Head Coach Tony Marmo, despite the 5-2 victory.

On the positive side, Marmo was happy that the team was able to score five times, dominate the game and hold an edge in time of ball possession.

The Banshees' record drops to no wins against five losses.

On Saturday, the Inferno travels north to prepare for a Sunday afternoon match against the New Jersey Wildcats in Trenton. Their only previous meeting occurred last year, when the teams tied 1-1 in Toronto.
