Result of the CPSL game of Wednesday August 6th 2003 between Toronto Croatia and North York Astros played at Memorial Stadium in Streetsville at 8:00pm.

The result was errr...the game was not played.

There was a game already going on at 7:30pm with a bunch of about 8 year olds. Ok so that would have gone on for maybe another half hour. What about after that? Next would teenage teams including one that had come all the way from Waterloo. Rather than override them who also supposedly had a valid permit, John from Toronto Croatia agreed to let them have their game too.

Obviously the City of Mississauga had double booked the field. The CPSL office is supposed to double check the week before the game because supposedly some towns/cities are notorious for doing this.

Chief of referees Tony Comacho listened to the Toronto Croatia execs confirm that the stadium lights are on a timer and at 11:00pm...CLICK...they're off! No use starting the CPSL game at 10:00pm then.

OK the game is off leaving the two teams, game officials, and at least 100 fans standing around (although there could have been more but mixed in the stands with the parents of the kids game).

This was my second choice for a game as I was going to see the Toronto Supra vs Durham Flames game but with both teams playing in the Canada Open Cup on the weekend they both decided to cancel their game at Centennial Stadium in Etobicoke at 8:30pm.

About 15 minutes into my drive home...CLICK...the lightbulb above my head goes off. It would have been worth it to get someone to make a cellphone call to someone hanging around at Centennial Stadium, as the stadium was 'paid' for, maybe the whole game, fans etc. could have been moved to that stadium. Only about 10kms away. Ahh people had started to scatter when I drove off so it was probably too late to turn back.
