Attendance was about 125 on this warm breezy evening. This game was broadcast live on Rogers Community Channel. A rebroadcast is scheduled for Sunday afternoon at 2:00pm.
This was a very rough game with twelve cards being given out, eight in the second half. Referee Sylvio Petrescu kept the game in control despite the tough tackling. Goalies Rob Tilley of the Sun Devils and Roberto Ferrari of the Thunder earned the shutout for their teams. With maybe two good saves each, most of the other stops were routine or blocked by their defenders.
Hamilton started the game off strongly then Vaughan gradually worked their way into the action. After the red card the Thunder closed off strongly as the team most likely to score a goal.
Elvis Thomas came into the game in the second half for the Sun Devils. He had missed the end of the A-League season with the Toronto Lynx after tearing a quad muscle in July while conducting a player's camp and missed six weeks of action. This was his first game back. That makes three post-Lynx-season sightings as last week I saw Nikki Vignjevic play midfield for Metro Lions and earlier this week I saw goalkeeping coach Paulo Silva in net for North York Astros.
