And two and a half hours after the Toronto Lynx game, the Toronto Supra played North York Astros on the same Centennial field however we had 90 minutes of hard rain between games and the first 30 minutes of the game played in a hard rain which only slowed up as the game went on. The field was turned into a mud pit. Attendance was about 60 who mostly sheltered under the pressbox or umbrellas. Good thing I am always invited INSIDE the press box so my notes don't turn to pulp.
The game is a mess with sliding tackles and guys on breakaways having the ball stop on them in puddles. A guy gets tackled in the center circle and risks drowning while lying face down waiting a trainer.
Supra's Michael Silva earned the shutout and was helped by crossbars saving shots. Both goalie's had trouble hanging on to the slippery ball although Miranda seemed to have the surer hands.
Watch highlights of this game on Portuguese sports news on OMNI 1 on Tuesday night at 5:00pm eastern time. (Channel 47 cable 4 for locals). So if you thought the Belmont Stakes horse race was muddy wait until you see the hydroplaning in this game.
