Sunday August 18, 2002 Matt Rosenfeld interview right after the Toronto Lynx vs Montreal Impact game.

RR-Ok well this was Sunday August 18th and what we've seen, it was a 2-1 loss by the Lynx that's too bad they lost to the Impact but after the first ten minutes they came back and played the Impact pretty even and so I'm talking to Matt Rosenfeld, a defender and today was a starter for the team and my first question for you Matt is why the team's so much better in their most recent ten games than the first ten games at the start of the season?

MR-I think one of the big problems was that of our first ten games I think we started eight on the road. It's pretty hard to start eight games on the road-win a lot of those games, we had a lot of close ones, they lost a lot of games in overtime so it wasn't that we were playing bad it was that we're more more unlucky.

RR-Ok yeah I recall there were a lot of overtime losses and so on. So was anything different in training or did it all just seem to gel and the team got together?

MR-I think that when we got home, got a couple of wins under our belts, that helped us out a lot. It gave us a little bit of confidence. So once we started winning obviously, it kept it going.

RR-Ok, well that’s too bad about today because of course there's the Voyageur's Cup which you guys could have clinched today I hear if you'd have won. I think you guys are still in the running for that. Now you've got to rely on Montreal and Vancouver and Calgary knocking each other off. You've heard about that tournament?

MR-Yeah we've recently heard about the Voyageurs Cup. It would have been nice had we'd clinched it tonight, obviously. It's kind of disappointing that we weren't able to but maybe we'll get some help and still be able to take it home.

RR-Yeah I think that's it because as we’ve heard you could still win that. Now earlier in your career you played up in Thunder Bay for the Thunder Bay Chill a PDL team and what was the competition up there like?

MR-It was a good league, just a lot of younger players still, a lot of college players, that's what I was at the time. I mean the difference when you get to this [A-League] level is it's just that much more faster and you've got to play that much more quicker.

RR-Ok what college were you at up there?

MR-I played at St Francis University which is in Pennsylvania.

RR-Do you have a "biggest career moment" so far?

MR-Professionally? (pause)

RR-Or could be amateur.

MR-I'd say just gaining the full scholarship to go to University, that was probably my biggest soccer moment.

RR-Now I thought of one this year for you, the Lynx went up to Thunder Bay to play the Chill and you were (at) that game of course. Did you play, like Pele, one half for each team?

MR-(laughs) No actually I played both halfs for the Lynx but it was really great to get up to Thunder Bay and play against all my friends and all the people I'd played with for so many years.

RR-Ok now let's talk, just to finish here, off season career pursuits. This season will end another month if you can drag on the playoffs but what will you be doing all winter?

MR-Winter? Probably just train for the next season, find some type of part time job that can get me though until I get back here next season.

RR-Sure Ok and just to finish, mention because I've heard the 'Rosenfeld' name mentioned around Toronto, you are a relative of some of the Rosenfeld's. Just finish off by saying who you're related to please.

MR-Bryan Rosenfeld, he's my uncle. He played a lot of years professionally. He played for Team Canada and also Tim Rosenfeld is my cousin and right now Tim's down in the United States at Penn State University. He's assistant women's coach there.

RR-Did they both play goalie?

MR-Yes they're both keepers and I was the lone defender.

RR-Alright, well thanks for talking to us and well thanks good luck in your season!

Time: four minutes, forty seconds.
