Hutchinson Signs
With The Lynx
With the A-League roster freeze set for Wednesday, July
31 at 4:00 p.m. the Toronto Lynx (7-9-3, 33 points) officially announced today
the signings of Canadian Under-20 midfielder Atiba Hutchinson and veteran Czech
midfielder Antonin Plachy as the club added some more depth in anticipation of a
playoff run this season. Toronto currently sits one point back of the Charlotte
Eagles (7-11-2, 34 points) for the sixth and final playoff spot in the Eastern
Conference.
Both Hutchinson and Plachy are signed for the remainder of
the 2002 season and for the entire 2003 campaign as well.
Hutchinson,
19, is currently training with the Canadian Under-20 National team in Houston,
Texas and is not scheduled to join the Lynx until after the club returns from
their three match West Coast road trip on Monday, August 5. The 6’2, 170lbs.
midfielder has been tabbed by many soccer insiders as a future star in Canadian
soccer and brings excellent pace, skill and size to the Lynx.
Plachy, 31,
joins the Lynx after having spent the past two seasons for Sparta KRC, a First
Division Czech squad. The 6’0, 187lbs. midfielder is eligible to be in the
line-up tonight as the Lynx battle the Hampton Roads Mariners (4-15-2, 20
points) at York University Stadium, but a decision on his availability will not
be made by Head Coach Peter Pinizzotto until game time.
