Match Summary: A questionable late penalty
kick called at the 90th minute of play cost the Toronto Lynx a victory tonight
as the club battled last season’s A-League regular season champions to a 1-1
tie. With the draw, Toronto earned its first point of the season. After a
uneventful first half, Kitchener native Nikola Budalic scored his first career
A-League goal against Ronnie Pascale at the 83rd minute mark to put the Lynx
ahead 1-0. After Richmond failed to clear the ball, the rookie, who signed an
amateur agreement with the club this season, fired the ball off both posts and
in to give the Lynx the lead. Toronto could not hold on for the win however as
Richmond superstar Kevin Jeffrey was awarded a penalty kick seven minutes later
after a controversial hand ball call by the referee. His shot past goalkeeper
Theo Zagar sent the game into overtime. In the extra frames both teams had their
chances but were unable to register a goal. Toronto will look for its first win
of the season Saturday night as the club continues its road trip with a match
against the Hampton Roads Mariners.
