A pair of Scarborough natives are trying to help professional soccer's Toronto Inferno turn around its season after a sluggish start.
Defender Kimberly Moore and midfielder Stacey Janetsos are both rookies on an Inferno team that has started off with a 2-3-1 record after finishing 10-3-2 last season and making the playoffs for the second straight year. Moore said the Inferno are just working out the kinks of a team that has seen quite a lot of player turnover in the off season.

"We need to try and get back into the playoffs," Moore said. "We need to start bonding together as a team and try to create a little bit more co-operation. There are only three returning players from last year on the team."

Moore has tried to remain positive during her team's slow start.

"My strong attitude helps the team pretty well," she said. "I just need to keep my spirits up and hopefully that will help the team succeed." Moore has also been an invaluable defender this season, said Tony Marmo, Inferno head coach. "She's been a pleasant surprise," Marmo said. "I didn't know anything about her when she was first called in for practice, but she has been a rock on defense. We just need her to keep it up."

As for Janetsos, Marmo is also happy with the play of his new midfielder. "She comes to the games and practices committed to the cause and ready to work. She's given us that and then some."

Marmo said his team's problems haven't been in keeping the ball out of its own net, but putting the ball into the net of the opposition.

"We have a lot of new players on the squad and it's taking time for the team to gel."

Due to the city's striking outside workers the Inferno's schedule has changed and games will not be played at Birchmount Stadium in Scarborough.
