Halftime entertainment was a quick introduction of the Canadian National Women's team that has a friendly against China on Thursday September 30th. They drew applause when they walked up the sideline waving at the fans.

Attendance was announced as 10581 which is the smallest crowd I've seen watch TFC play in Toronto. The weather was cold and it rained during the day and at times during this game. I don't expect even that many people showed up tonight. The South end stands were full but the North end was about empty and the east and west side stands were about half full. Fans were singing "Sloop John B" during the game with its lyrics "This is the worst trip I've ever been on".

TFC absolutely needed to win this game. The tie knocked them out of the CONCACAF League Championship and ensures that Real Salt Lake and Cruz Azul advance to the next round. I wonder if they hadn't made the group stage of this competition and therefore not had to play so many mid-week games whether they would have done better in their MLS league games and not be almost out of the playoffs?

Real Salt Lake needed a tie to ensure they advanced to the next round. They had rested some of their regular players in their MLS game on the weekend so they could concentrate on this game and their final game against Cruz Azul wouldn't matter.

RSL's regular season MLS game here at BMO Field was on August 28th when the two teams played to a 0-0 tie.

TFC were trying to win here after RSL scored the tieing goal bringing on forward O'Brian White to play with other forwards, Chad Barrett, Dwayne DeRosario, and Mista in a desperate attempt to score the winner. They then ran the danger of RSL getting the winner on counterattacks with less players in the midfield and defence.
