Attendance was not announced but was later published as 16862. This was not part of the season ticket package and tickets could not be sold to all but season ticket holders until the team was assured of qualifying following their victory against CD Motagua of Honduras a few weeks ago.

This was the first game of the CONCACAF Champions League Group A stage matches. The other two teams in this home and away series are Real Salt Lake of the MLS and Arabe Unido of Panama. Cruz Azul was the favourite to win this group as for the last two years they were runners-up in the twenty-four team tournament.

Toronto FC got off to the dream start with a goal at 3 minutes and then scoring just before halftime. They looked like they were hanging on at the end but did get the win. They gave regular goalie Stefan Frei the night off and used Jon Conway who fit in well. Cruz Azul used their back-up goalie tonight too with Yosgart Gutierrez taking the place of Jose Corona.

The players on Cruz Azul looked so small compared to the TFC team. The TFC defence was ready for all crosses and cornerkicks heading the ball away from Cruz Azul forwards.
