Toronto FC captain Dwayne De Rosario was recognized as the Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) after he registered a goal and an assist in Toronto FC's 2-0 shutout of the Seattle Sounders in Week 5.
"Every game we've played spurts. Today, we played a good 90 minutes and it's real good to see," Dwayne De Rosario told the Toronto Star. "As a whole unit, it was first class."
The Canadian international opened the scoring in the 58th minute when Seattle's Osvaldo Alonso coughed up the ball at the top of the Sounders box. De Rosario took full advantage and curled a shot inside the far right post for his fifth goal of the season. He opened the 2010 campaign by scoring all of his club's first five goals.
TFC would then capitalize on another Seattle miscue when an errant Tyrone Marshall pass was scooped up by Toronto in the 76th minute. De Rosario concluded the counterattack by serving up a perfect pass in the box to teammate O'Brian White, who made it 2-0 and put the result out of reach. It was Toronto's second consecutive win at BMO Field, where they have earned all six points thus far in 2010.
"The main thing in this game was that we were looking to create chances, and that's something we did exceptionally well," De Rosario told CBC Sports. "I'm ever so pleased with the way the guys came, from the first minute to the last."
Now in his 10th season in the league, the 31-year-old De Rosario was selected as Player of the Week on four previous occasions: once each in 2003, 2005, 2006 and 2007.
Next up for De Rosario and TFC is a home game against the Montreal Impact on Wednesday, April 28 in the Nutrilite Canadian Championship, which awards a berth into the CONCACAF Champions League.
