Toronto FC announced Saturday they have signed defender Dan Gargan. Gargan was signed after spending much of the pre-season with the team. As per team and league rules, financial details were not released.

"Dan is a player that showed promise during our pre-season - and we are happy we were able to get him in here in time for the game today," said manager, director of soccer Mo Johnston. He's a utility player that will be able to play in numerous spots for us."

Gargan, 27, was drafted in the 3rd Round (43rd overall) by the Colorado Rapids in the 2005 MLS Supplemental Draft. The following season he was awarded the "Rapids Most Improved Player". He made a total of 49 appearances for the Rapids before moving on to Chivas USA in April of 2008. Shortly after, he retired from the game citing personal reasons but resurfaced in the USL First Division with the Puerto Rico Islanders in 2009. With the Islanders he finished with 12 appearances and one goal.

Gargan arrives in Columbus today in time to be available for selection for the game against the Crew. Kickoff is 4 p.m. ET, with the game broadcast on GOL TV Canada, and The FAN 590 radio.
