Attendance was about 200 on this very hot and humid afternoon with a bright sun in the west. (the field was aligned north to south so no team had to run towards it). Fans were mostly parents of the ball retrievors but there were some travelling Fury fans too.

Justine Bernier earned the shutout for the Lady Lynx. She had to be sharp throughout the game and made some diving saves to keep her team in the game.

Closest non-scoring plays were at 41 minutes when the Fury Servet Uzunlar was touched back a ball and blasted a 40 yard shot that hit the bar and she won a cornerkick. At 61 minutes Fury Christina Julien appeared to be squeezed out of a play on a 1 vs 2 rush on the left but got away a 20 yard shot that the sprawling goalie stopped at 7 yards but the big rebound had Julien send a 15 yard shot over the fallen goalie and over net. Two minutes later TLL Christabel Oduro got a cross rolled to her and stopped the ball and cut a 12 yard shot down the middle over the net. At 71 minutes Fury Lia Percival took a 30 yard freekick from the left sideline that had a defender pop up the ball on a header and the ball was kicked around in the 6 yard box until it was eventually picked up by the goalie. (similar to the Ghana vs Uruguay World Cup game but without the hand ball!). At 82 minutes Fury Tameka Butt foot stabbed at a high ball on a 2 on 1 break and sent it just over the net from 12 yards. At 84 minutes, TLL Carmelina Puopolo rushed down the middle around a defender and took a low 12 yard shot that had the goalie dive and push wide left of net. No real chances in the three minutes of extra time with the Fury players miscuing setting up shots twice within that time.

Sharon Welsby was the referee today and didn't had to sorth through a lot of rough play to deal with a lot of freekicks for knock downs. Two Yellow cards in the first 25 minutes, both to Fury players, kept the game in check.

The game could be seen as revenge for the game in Ottawa last Sunday when the Fury won 1-0 with the lone goal at 94 minutes. Lady Lynx have boxed two 1-0 road games around that loss with wins against Hamilton Lady Avalanche and Rochester Ravens to make the playoffs this year a possibility. They still have not had a game this season where they've scored more than two goals so no win including today has been comfortable. I had been thinking the Fury had a long winning streak against the Lady Lynx in Toronto but confirmed with head coach Danny Stewart that last year they beat them 2-0. Duh! I realized later I was there although it was after Fury had clinched a playoff spot and the Lady Lynx weren't going to make it. The Fury have won the Division title in every year since 2004 and are well on the way to winning the title again this year. This was a huge win for the Lady Lynx. Lynx men's team head coach and runner of the Lynx Academy Duncan Wilde had a rare day off with the Lynx winning 1-0 against Cleveland last night so was back in Toronto with enough time to catch this game and talk to Lady Lynx head coach Danny Stewart. .

Next game for the Lady Lynx is an exhibition game on Wednesday July 7th at 11:00am against Buffalo Flash at Lamport Stadium in Toronto. The Flash are not in the same division as the Lady Lynx this year. This is the Lynx annual game for Toronto social clubs and day camps in the region and is always well attended.
