HAMILTON CROATIA ON A WINNING NOTE....Milltown defeat means league title win for York Region Shooters
2010-10-05

FC Hamilton Croatia ended their regular season on a winning note, a 1-0 squeaker over Milltown FC at Ivor Wynne Stadium in Hamilton, the only game scheduled in the CSL Tuesday night.

The victory moved Hamilton Croatia into third position and prevented a bid by Milltown FC to end their season on top of the standings.

Instead, the early leaders for a long period in the 13-team First Division, York Region Shooters, won the CSL league title with still one game remaining in their regular season schedule.

It was Hamilton Croatia defender Ivan Razumovic who scored the lone goal at the 35 minute mark when he picked up the ball on the rebound from a free kick and drove it into the net from inside the box.

FC Hamilton Croatia, one of four first year teams in the CSL, finished with a 13-6-5 WLT record for 44 points, good for third place behind the Shooters and Serbian White Eagles. Milltown, also a team in its inaugural year in professional soccer, always looked like a contender and occupied the top position for brief periods during the second half of the season.

A win Tuesday would have lifted the Milton-based team on top and force York Region Shooters into gaining at least a draw in their end-of-regular season game with Toronto Croatia on Friday.

Milltown ended their regular season with a 12-5-7 record for 43 points.

The Toronto Croatia vs. York Region Shooters game will be an 8 pm kickoff at Centennial Stadium on Friday, while at the same time, Brantford Galaxy will be at home to St. Catharines Wolves at Lions Park in Brantford.
