MILLTOWN BACK ON TOP....Portugal still climbing with 4-3 victory, Galaxy defeat Toronto Croatia 2-1

Milltown FC are back on top of the CSL First Division with a 2-1 victory over Brampton Lions Sunday and in two other games, Portugal FC continued to climb the table with a 4-3 win over North York Astros and Brantford Galaxy beat Toronto Croatia 2-1.

No less than five teams can win the CSL league title before moving into the playoffs for the CSL championship and Milltown FC are in a good position following their 2-1 defeat of Brampton Lions at Lions Park of Sunday afternoon.

The win also assured Milltown of a playoff berth, to be one of eight teams to begin playoff action in just two weeks, leading to the CSL Championship on Saturday, October 30.

Lesley St. Fleur opened the scoring at the 7th minute mark to put Milltown one-up against Brampton, a team bidding for playoff action and Brampton tied it up at 33 minutes on a goal by Jeremy Sheppard.

The winning goal was a good one, a long range volley by Milltown forward Cordell Benjamin at 83 minutes that left Brampton goalkeeper Roy Blanche with no chance and the game ended 2-1 for Milltown.

The Milton-based team moves to the top of the table with a 11-4-6 WLT record for 39 points, while Brampton are at 7-9-5 for 26 points in 9th poition.

Portugal FC continue to climb the table with the 4-3 victory over the Astros and it was forward Jarek Whiteman who led the way for Portugal with three first half goals. Whiteman scored his hat-trick at 6, 8 and 21 minutes, while the fourth Portugal goal for a 4-0 half-time lead was scored by Andrea Lombardo at 14 minutes and it was Lombardo's 8th of the season.

Each team lost a player close to half time following an altercation that saw red cards issued to Portugal's Luca Forno and North York Astros player Jevon Vanderryden.

North York rallied in the second half that saw a change in the Portugal goalkeeper that saw Mike Silva substituted by Matt Dias.

Erik Grigore scored from the penalty spot at 73 minutes for the Astros and Grigore struck again at 88 minutes to make it 4-2. Midfielder Alexandre Oran scored a third for the Astros, the goal coming late in added time for a 4-3 final score in favour of Portugal FC.

Portgual now has a 10-8-4 record for 34 points, while North York Astros are at 5-14-3 for 18 points.

Toronto Croatia's Sven Arapovic opened the scoring with a header at 18 minutes at Lions Park in Brantford and Ranko Golijanin tied the game just before half-time when the Galaxy's Miodrag Andvelkovic was brought down in the penalty box. It was 1-1 at the break.

Toronto Croatia were awarded a penalty at 57 minutes, but a well struck shot be Tihomir Maletic was saved by Galaxy goalkeeper Ante Domjanovic.

Golijanin set up the winner when he broke down the left wing to cross for Nenad Begovic to find the net at 82 minutes and the game ended 2-1 for Brantford.

The Galaxy have an improved 9-8-3 record for 30 points as a result of the win, while Toronto Croatia are at 6-5-7 for 27 points.
