Attendance was about 150 on this cool evening with a wind from the north. There was no sun as the nights are getting longer.
Scott Cliff earned the shutout and the MFC defensive line of Eric Batchanou, Thierry Mangwa-Batomen, Nicholas Goddard, and Martin Artale limited the SWE players to some rushed shots or blocks.
After Milos Scepanovic drew the Red card, the game was really over because the SWE had enough trouble getting shots towards goal when the teams were at even strength. During the second half, the referee was on a spell of showing Yellow cards to Milltown for tackles and two for time wasting including one at only 67 minutes to goalie Scott Cliff.
Milltown execs Dino Rossi Jr and Lino Terra answered some of my questions after the game. Lesly St Fleur is a player from the Bahamas and the team was contacted by a player agent as he was looking for a better calibre league then from his home country. This position could lead to a jump to Europe. He is very fast and had a field day on the slow SWE defence. After his two goals though with hoots from the fans watching, most other runs he was flagged down for offsides or checked off the ball. His only limitation looked to be that he is small in stature. Their goalie Scott Cliff has been pointed out to Canadian national head coach Stephen Hart and it is possible he will get a look some time in the future. He was controlling his field players like a Sabbuteo board. Their team right now has a depth problem and they named off about four players that were either injured or serving suspensions. They were using a forward from their reserve team as a defender. I noticed about two or three cramping up as the weather got colder further infuriating the crowd for time wasting.
White Eagles last five game results have been tie, tie, loss, tie, loss. This was only the second game this year that they've allowed two goals. This was the second time this season that Milltown has beaten them. They were passed in the standings tonight when TFC Academy beat Brantford Galaxy in a rescheduled game. Milltown with tonight's results pulls to within one point of the White Eagles and they get a chance to jump to first with a home game this Sunday against Brantford.
