TFC HELD BUT STILL ON TOP.....Milltown control Brantford Galaxy 6-0 and Brampton surprise Shooters 3-2
2010-09-12

TFC Academy were held to a scoreless tie with bottom team St. Catharines Wolves on Sunday night and in two other games in the CSL, Milltown FC dominated Brantford Galaxy 6-0 and Brampton Lions scored a 3-2 victory over York Region Shooters.

Milltown FC took control early at the Bishop Reding ground when Thierry Mangwas-Batomen headed the ball into the net past Galaxy goalkeeper Ante Domjanovic at the 4 minute mark and Cordell Benjamin made it 2-0 when he closed in alone at 24 minutes. The 2-0 lead remained to the interval.

Martijn Kuijpers increased the lead to 3-0 for Milltown at 53 minutes and Lesly St. Fleur scored two minutes later to make it 4-0. Martin Artale made it 5-0 at 59 minutes and St. Fleur struck his second of the game and fourth of the weekend to complete the 6-0 rout. St. Fleur scored both goals in the 2-0 Milltown FC defeat of Serbian White Eagles on Friday night.

It's Milltown FC's biggest score - they defeated St. Catharines Wolves 5-0 on August 18 - and they now have a 10-4-6 WLT record for 36 points, just one point behind league-leading TFC Academy. Brantford Galaxy are at 8-8-3 for 27 points.

Forward Luke Stedmond had York Region Shooters off on the right foot at the Joan of Arc ground in Maple when he scored the opening goal after just 4 minutes. But the 1-0 lead was cancelled out three minutes later by an own goal when Shooters' midfielder Nick Cisternino headed into his own net in an attempt to pass back to goalkeeper Camilo Benzi. It was 1-1 at half-time.

Brampton forward Blazej Skoczylas was shown the red card by referee Justin Tasev just before half-time for Violent Conduct.

Oswald Adu put Brampton ahead at the 50th minute mark and Judah Hernandez made it 3-1 for the visitors at the 84th minute mark.

Midfielder Julio Garcia scored for the Shooters at the 85th minute for a 3-2 final result in favour of Brampton Lions.

York Region Shooters are at 9-4-6 for 33 points, while Brampton Lions continue to improve with their seventh win of the season, a 7-8-5 record for 26 points.

It was a well played even encounter between TFC Academy and St. Catharines Wolves at Centennial Stadium despite their relative standing in the First Division table, with the academy team at the top and the Wolves a fixture in the cellar position and finding it difficult to pick up any points in recent times.

Both goalkeepers, Claudio Perri for the visitors and newcomer Justin Silveira from the Erin Mills Soccer Club gave little away and except for a late attempt by Wolves' midfielder Stefan Kamendy which was saved by Silveira, there were few opportunities for either side to score.

TFC Academy remain on top of the standings following the tie, they now have a 10-4-7 record for 37 points, while St. Catharines Wolves now have a 2-13-3 record for 9 points.
