SHOOTERS TAKE OVER, BRAMPTON WIN 1-0 AND LONDON CITY CRUSH THE ASTROS 7-0
2010-08-08

York Region Shooters are back on top following a 1-1 tie with Milltown FC, Brampton Lions continued their recent good form with a 1-0 victory over Brantford Galaxy and North York Astros lost yet again when crushed 7-0 by London City, all in the CSL Sunday.

A lot of interest was centered on York Region Shooters and Milltown, both having occupied the top recently and the game was a well-played even affair with Milltown taking the lead at 18 minutes when Cordell Benjamin collected the ball from a free kick to beat Camilo Benzi in the home net.

Milltown appeared to have the game won at the Maple ground when with the last kick of the match defender Aundre Rollins of York Region Shooters struck the equalizer on collecting the ball from a free kick to score from 6 yards on visitors' goalkeeper Cliff Scott.

The Shooters go back on top of the table with a 8-3-4 WLT record for 28 points, that’s one point ahead of Serbian White Eagles in second, while Milltown FC improve to 7-3-5 for 26 points in 4th position.

Brampton Lions picked up another narrow, but important win in their gradual recovery from a poor first half of the season and the only goal in the 1-0 victory at Victoria Park was scored by forward Judah Hernandez, his 6th goal of the campaign. Hernandez beat Galaxy goalkeeper Ante Domjanovic at the 84th minute mark when he took a pass from Daniel Nascimento on a breakaway.

The Lions move up the table with a 5-8-2 record for 17 points while Brantford Galaxy now have a 5-5-3 record for 18 points.

London City went on a rampage at Esther Shiner Stadium in North York when in a six-minute period just before the interval they scored four goals against a shell-shocked Luis Gonzalez in the North York Astros goal. With a score 5-0 a half time, the city scored two more in the second half for a rare 7-0 victory, and creating an equally infrequent two wins in three days following their 2-1 victory over St. Catharines Wolves on Friday night.

Genti Buzali opened the scoring for London at 20 minutes, midfielder Anasse Brouk made it 2-0 from the penalty spot at 40 minutes and three more were scored before the half-time whistle by Younan Samra at 42 minutes, Samra again one minute later and Thomas Beattie struck his 7th of the season at 45 minutes for a 5-0 lead at the interval.

Justin Marques at 73 minutes and Cody Workman at 83 minutes completed the scoring for a 7-0 final.

London City now have a 3-7-4 record for 13 points, while North York Astros are at 4-9-2 for 14 points.

There is one mid-week game in the CSL when Serbian White Eagles travel to St. Catharines for a clash with the Wolves on Wednesday night, that's at Club Roma with an 8 pm kickoff.
