LOWLY ST. CATHARINES AND LONDON CITY TIE 2-2 WEDNESDAY......but more points needed to mount a playoff bid
2010-07-21

A 2-2 tie between St. Catharines Wolves and London City at Club Roma in St. Catharines Wednesday night did little to help either team improve their lowly position in the standings and bid to be one of eight teams to advance to the CSL playoffs.

While there is still lots of time before the end of the regular season and the beginning of the playoffs early October, both teams expected to be in a more favourable position at this midpoint in the 2010 regular season campaign.

St. Catharines defender Daniel Mazzuca put is team in a good early position with a goal at the 28th minute mark, he took a cross from Carlo Arghittu to just beat London 'keeper Scott Mueller who came close to making the save. It was 1-0 at half-time.

Midfielder Tom Beattie put London City on level terms with a well-placed free kick from 20 yards that caught the top corner of the net. Beattie's goal, which came at 49 minutes, was his fifth of the season.

Stefan Kamendy put St. Catharines in front 2-1 at 71 minutes, scoring from the penalty spot following a hand ball in the box by London defender Sergio Seguenza.

The tying goal came 10 minutes later when Genti Buzali’s header from 15 yards beat Claudio Perri in the Wolves' net to give London City the point.

St. Catharines Wolves are now at 2-7-2 WLT for 8 points as they occupy a tie for 11th position with Brampton Lions, while London City are now at 1-5-4 for 7 points at the foot of the table.

St. Catharines Wolves play a rare Friday night game at Club Roma when they meet a lively Montreal Impact Academy team, that's a 7.30 pm start, while London City are at home to Portugal FC, also this coming Friday night, a 8.40 pm
